Jackson County Sallyport & Jail Basement Dormitory

Medford, OR

ORW Architecture was chosen to work with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department on a plan to upgrade and re-purpose existing facilities at the Jackson County Jail.  With population growth and general changes in detention and security, the facility was in need of upgrades.

ORW designed a new sallyport and booking facility to improve security and better manage the remanding of detainees at the facility.  In addition, with the relocation of the bulk of the Sheriff’s operations to a new, more centrally located depot, the existing lower floor of the jail was remodeled to provide a new dormitory style detention and cell-block areas for female detainees.  Improvements at the jail include improved vehicle circulation, enhanced officer security, segregated prisoner holding areas, new surveillance systems, and improved HVAC and lighting systems.
