Siskiyou Community Health Center

Cave Junction, OR

‚Äč

Set in a dense thicket of old-growth forest just off the highway, the Siskiyou Community Health Center was conceived as a camp shelter set in the trees.  The clinic was carefully located on the site so as to disturb as few of the existing trees as possible.  The gently sloping roof and generous overhangs protect the building from abundant rain and bright summer sun. These features allow a great deal of the facade to be glazed, flooding the interior with a bounty of natural light and ventilation.  Emphasis was placed on the use of natural, low-maintenance materials, further complementing the surroundings and eliminating the need for expensive and ongoing maintenance.
